Frequently Asked Questions
Study in China — General
Requirements vary by program and university, but generally you need: a valid passport, high school diploma (for Bachelor's) or Bachelor's degree (for Master's/PhD), academic transcripts, proof of language proficiency (HSK for Chinese-taught, IELTS/TOEFL for English-taught), and a clean criminal record. Our team guides you through every document requirement.
Tuition ranges from $2,000-$10,000 per year depending on the university and program. Living costs average $300-$600 per month including accommodation. Many scholarships cover full or partial tuition plus a living stipend. Through 86 Connect, 70% of our students receive some form of scholarship.
Not necessarily. Over 400 English-taught programs are available at Chinese universities, particularly in Medicine, Engineering, Business, and Computer Science. However, learning basic Chinese greatly enriches your experience and daily life. We provide pre-departure Chinese language resources.
We recommend starting 6-12 months before your intended intake. Main intakes are September (Fall) and March (Spring). Early application increases your chances of admission and scholarship awards. Contact us anytime — we work on rolling admissions.
Study in China — Scholarships & Visa
There are several types: Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC) covering full tuition + stipend, Confucius Institute Scholarship, university-specific scholarships, provincial scholarships, and Belt & Road Initiative scholarships. We match you with all eligible scholarships and handle the application process.
After receiving your admission letter and JW202 form from the university, you apply for an X1 (long-term) or X2 (short-term) visa at the Chinese embassy/consulate in your country. We provide a detailed visa guide, document checklist, and support you through the entire visa application process.
International students on X1 visas can work part-time with permission from their university and local immigration authorities. Many students teach English, do internships at multinational companies, or work in campus jobs. There are strict limits on hours, and we advise students to focus on studies first.
Most universities offer international student dormitories ($200-$600/semester). Off-campus apartments range from $200-$500/month. Health insurance is mandatory — approximately $100/year — and covers basic medical care at university hospitals. We arrange airport pickup and temporary accommodation on arrival.
